Some of these blog posts are far too long.
Too many pretentious long words and flowery descriptions. This week, to save
space and reading time - and because the two U14 girls' matches in November
were uncannily similar - their reports have been merged into one compact 400
word edition.
The Foxes maintained their table-top
position and 100% record in the Bristol Girls League with a poised and
comfortable win against a lively and competitive Emerson’s Green/Bradley Stoke
side.
The pitch at BAWA/Little Stoke Playing
Fields was looking pretty bad/good considering the recent wet weather. Parents
gathered on the sidelines in chilly conditions sipping coffees from the BAWA
clubhouse/tea and biscuits from the Bradley Stoke windbreak-sheltered stall.
Spot the Ball! |
The 'Hoops' got off to a strong start from
which their opponents never really recovered, settling the game in the first
half with three unanswered goals. A
clinical strike from Sim and a brilliant brace from Amelia W No.2 /a
devastating Zoe hat trick, showing her pace, power and instinct for goal - settled
nerves and allowed the home/away team to settle into their passing and movement
game. More chances followed as Mara/Georgia/Ella/Amelia/Rhiannon frequently
broke forward and centred, but the Foxes could not finish and add to their
tally.
The second half was never very far from
being interesting, with the Foxes thwarted in their efforts to score more by a
succession of vigorous challenges and brave Emerson’s defending/frequent
offsides against the high Stoke line and miscues in front of goal. The heavy
ground made goal kicks and long shots more challenging, although Lulu still
tested the keeper with a few well directed blasts. The much improved opponents
battled hard and made some headway with long through balls and the occasional
set piece, but the lightning fast and steely green and white defence snuffed
out any danger instantly. 'The Cat' in goal didn't have a meaningful save to make from the away/home forward line!
Overall, this was solid and calm team
football from a side high on skill and confidence. Frequent substitutions
allowed contributions from the whole squad, without any reduction in quality.
While parents would clearly have loved to
stay out in the cold even longer in the hope of seeing some more goals, the
final whistle signalled a hasty exit to the car park and the welcome prospect
of a hot bath (or at least a hot chocolate). 3-0...and three cheers, of course,….to
the Foxes.
