The U15s league has turned out to be a three way battle
between the Foxes, Bishopston Youth and Wickwar. The Foxes home draw against
Rockleaze in December had, in reality, taken away any chance of the home side winning the
league but a victory would mean that the Bishopston would still be able to
catch Wickwar and force a play-off if the Foxes were able to win this
game.
These encounters always seem to produce fiercely contested
games, between two teams playing very different styles of football.
Wickwar started strongly and looked to get the ball forward as quickly as
possible to their speedy front players. The Foxes found themselves drawn into
an aerial battle and forget to do what has served us well all season.
Rather against
the run of play a cross/shot from Dom Riley flew into the Wickwar top corner,
but the away side, playing into the wind, which held the through ball up for
the forwards to exploit, came back well and scored two goals very similar in
style: the first from a long clearance that bounced into the Foxes box for an
on-rushing midfielder to bravely head beyond Owen; and the second a free kick on
the halfway line which once again was directed past Owen as it bounced in the box.
The Foxes were positive at half time and determined to enjoy
the second half. Wickwar created the clearest chance sin the first 10 mins and
then faded, or perhaps sat deeper in order to protect their lead, and this
allowed the Foxes to gain an increasingly strong foothold. The equalising goal,
via Omar from a corner, was well deserved and at the end the Foxes were the side
that wanted the game to go on for a bit longer.
A draw was affair result on the day.
