BSYL Yr10 – Foxes 12 – 0 Bishopston Colts, 27/02

The Foxes last league game of the 15/16 season saw the boys have fun at St Bedes in the (cold) sunshine. In a game played in good spirit against Bishopston Colts, the Foxes mixed positions around , shared the goals and played with smiles on their faces.

Now onto the cup run starting on 12th March…..

BSYL Yr10 – Ashely Down 1 – 5 Foxes. 20/02

Ashley Down always provide the Foxes with tough opponents and on a wet and windy morning at Muller Road, the Foxes were expecting a close encounter. The pitch was heavy and both sides faced a challenge of a sticky, lumpy surface. To the Foxes credit this did not stop us looking to get the ball ‘down’ and moving quickly and we were rewarded with some fine moments. These came, however, after the home side had taken the lead from a well worked free kick. This seemed to fire the Foxes into action as first Nick and then Danny scored lovely strickes after good team build up play. 2-1 at half time to the Foxes.

The second half saw the Foxes start to dominate possession and the lack of substitutes for Ashley Down really began to bite. More goals, all of a high standard came from Danny, Henry and, on a day of great goals the best of all,  from Dom Riley. Jack also hit the post and Ed had a late effort ruled off-side.

 Well played boys.

BSYL Yr 10 – Foxes 2 – 2 Wickwar. 30/01

The U15s league has turned out to be a three way battle between the Foxes, Bishopston Youth and Wickwar. The Foxes home draw against Rockleaze in December had, in reality, taken away any chance of the home side winning the league but a victory would mean that the Bishopston would still be able to catch Wickwar and force a play-off if the Foxes were able to win this game.

These encounters always seem to produce fiercely contested games, between two teams playing  very different styles of football. Wickwar started strongly and looked to get the ball forward as quickly as possible to their speedy front players. The Foxes found themselves drawn into an aerial battle and forget to do what has served us well all season.

Rather against the run of play a cross/shot from Dom Riley flew into the Wickwar top corner, but the away side, playing into the wind, which held the through ball up for the forwards to exploit, came back well and scored two goals very similar in style: the first from a long clearance that bounced into the Foxes box for an on-rushing midfielder to bravely head beyond Owen; and the second a free kick on the halfway line which once again was directed past Owen as it bounced in the box.

The Foxes were positive at half time and determined to enjoy the second half. Wickwar created the clearest chance sin the first 10 mins and then faded, or perhaps sat deeper in order to protect their lead, and this allowed the Foxes to gain an increasingly strong foothold. The equalising goal, via Omar from a corner, was well deserved and at the end the Foxes were the side that wanted the game to go on for a bit longer.

A draw was affair result on the day.

BSYL Yr 10 – Foxes 16 – 0 Thornbury Colts. 16/01

A second game of the season  against one the League’s younger sides, saw another win for the Foxes.

Thornbury were lacking their stand out player from when the two sides met earlier in the season, the opposition’s coaches son having move on to a new club. Without his strength and speed Thornbury struggled against the dominant Foxes, who despite switching players to different positions and multiple substitutions ran out easy winners.
