The third and final part of the BSYL Foxes v Foxes trilogy saw the Greens meet the Whites in the quarter final of the cup at St Ursula's. An evening kick off. Sunshine and a belting game.
The Greens struck first as Omar headed in Ollie C's great corner. The Whites came straight back from the kick off with a scything three pass move that Raul finished with ease. Another corner for the Greens. Another great ball from Ollie C and this time an own goal. 2-1. Then almost immediately the Whites repeated their earlier move and Raul finished well again. The Whites were on top but Raul just failed to get his toe to another great ball from Sam L and half-time came with Ollie C tucking away a rebound after a great save from Owen. 3-2 to the Greens.
Half-time and a chance to catch breath.
The second half saw Joey bring the scores level and then a string of chances at both ends came and went before Danny seized on a loose ball and tucked away the winner. 4-3.
A great game which emphasised what a shame it was that the two sides drew each other this early in the cup. This would have been a worthy final. Well played all.

BSYL - yr 6 - 31st March
The Whites played at home against Brislington. For the first time this season we asked the League to provide a referee and were glad we did as the travelling coaches and supporters were very vocal in their criticism of every decision that didn't go their way, irrespective of whether the ref was actually right or not.
We had, once again, to call in a number of year 5s and, once again, they did the club proud, with both of our goals coming from the younger year group. For the first time this season we didn't have Owen available and sadly we paid heavily for it. He would have kept out all of Brislington's goals and would also have meant that we didn't have to play two 'natural' strikers in goal for a half each. Great performances from Aidan and Seb at the back and a lovely strike from Stanley was not enough to leave warm memories of a difficult game played in a poor spirit throughout.
The Greens travelled to Ingleside and came out as 4-1 winners. We started sluggishly and the home side deserved to be 1-0 ahead and could actually have increased their lead but for some scrambled defence and great keeping by Archie. Danny brought us level with a neat turn and finish and after half time the introduction of the year 5s (Henry, Joseph and T-J) changed our attitude and lead to further goals from Danny (again), Archie (from a goal kick) and Ollie K (taking a touch before lashing the ball into the top corner).
Well played all and a huge thanks to Simon, Rob and Colin for sharing their year 5 players so generously this season and for the boys (and parents) for turning out for us to such great effect.

There were six goals in the first half followed by three in the second, comprising hat-tricks for each of Joey, Sam L and Sonny. The Foxes played some attractive football, with the ball being moved quickly and attacks coming from both left and right. The pick of the goals were Sonny's long range diagonal strike from outside the box, and Sam's finishing off a full length of the pitch break from defensive stalwart Sebastian. Special mentions again to Sophie McC and Anna D, the only girls to have played in the BSYL for any team this season, both of whom played superbly and were more than a match for the boys. The final scoreline was harsh on a brave Rockleaze team who continued to pass the ball well throughout, and who came very close to scoring, with one goalbound effort headed over the bar by the last defender, and others tipped round the post. The game was played in a good spirit throughout, matching the beautiful weather enjoyed by parents and spectators.

Yr 6 - BSYL - 24th March and Friendly League v Sefton Park
A tough game against the Buccaneer Whites ended the Greens hopes of finishing third in the league. Despite the Greens playing some good football and dominating long periods of play, the Buccaneers Whites took their chances well and scored four goals to the Foxes one, late on, which was well taken by Ollie C. The Foxes never really got going but didn't deserve to lose by such a margin.
The Whites played a Friendly against Sefton Park and enjoyed a win by an odd goal in 9. Sefton Park were keen to play 8 a-side and with exactly that number of players the Foxes agreed. An hour of football saw four different keepers and goals from Sam L, Sonny, Owen (2) and one o.g. A great deal of football played in a good spirit was decided when Sefton narrowly missed a last gasp penalty. Fun all round.

Y2 v Sefton Park (H)
Our last game of the Friendly League season against Sefton Park Scorpions.
For a warm-up, the Foxes sprinted round the Sports Relief Mile, perhaps they wouldn't if they knew that they had 90 mins of football to follow...
Three Foxes teams of eight played against a Scorpions squad of 12 - and whilst each game was being played, the 'resting' two Foxes teams played each other.
The first game was tight, with the 'reds' midfield dominating. In a game of few chances (no one got past Jacob), Reggie came very close with a last minute shot that just went the wrong side of the post. The game ended 0-0.
In the second game, the 'yellow' Foxes were more dominant. Alex in goal was untroubled but the Foxes could not turn posession into clear-cut chances. Mid way through the second half, Samuel found room for a shot and dispatched the ball into the top left hand corner. 1-0.
The last of the three games belonged to Sefton Park against a tired 'blues'. Three shots and three good goals by the Scorpions brought the season to a close.
So the end to a fantastic first season, and it's amazing to see how much the Foxes have improved, especially as they are starting to appreciate the benefits of playing as a team. Highlight of the season? - the comeback against a strong Rockleaze Rangers when 1-5 down at half time.

BSYL - Yr 6 - 17th March
The Greens hosted Shirehampton in the first part of a double-header and it was the home side who came out of the blocks quickest. Omar opened the scoring with a fine strike from a tight angle and grabbed another when his shot was turned in by a Shirehampton defender. The Foxes third came when Danny's shot took a deflection and nestled low into the corner of the goal. In the second half Shirehampton found their feet putting the Foxes under pressure with some good passing football but were unlucky when the Greens broke quickly down the right, a good cross from Joseph McMurchie and Max Thrasher hit a fine volley over the keeper to make it four. Shirehampton then got the goal they deserved and the game ended 4-1.
The second part of Saturdays double-header also ended 4-1 to the Foxes but the game was tighter than the scoreline suggests. Shirehampton played this match a man down due to an injury but despite the disparity of numbers opened the scoring with a great run and super finish. As half-time approached the Foxes started to make the extra man count and Omar grabbed a brace to send the Foxes in 2-1 up. In the second half Shirehampton battled on and created several good chances and the Foxes were thankful to Archie for a number of good saves. The Greens sealed victory late on when Joseph McMurchie crossed for Henry Sweet to score and Henry grabbed a second near the end with another well taken goal.

It was goalless for the first 15 minutes, with both teams coming close, until Joey's header broke the deadlock, and he then added another before the break, as well as providing the cross for a close range finish from Sonny. In the second half Ingleside tired and faded slightly in the face of some excellent Foxes passing and the individual skill of Sonny . Both Sonny and Joey completed their hat tricks, to which were added beautifully taken goals from Jacob and Raul , Sam L and a rare strike from usual keeper Owen . Ingleside battled hard and forced a well deserved goal midway through the half. 10-1 to the Foxes

After 10 minutes of sustained pressure Danny opened the scoring for the Foxes with a crisp finish from the edge of the box. The second came quickly with Omar scoring from a tight angle before Danny was on hand again minutes later to grab his second to make it 3-0.
After a slow start Stoke Lane started to find their feet and put the Foxes under pressure as half time approached. A good passing move released their striker who finished well. 3-1 half time, game on.

The last 15 minutes it was all Stoke Lane and they were rewarded with another good goal but the home side held on and were by far the most grateful to hear the final whistle to win 5-3.

Confusion reigned and eventually, after much conversation, the decision was reversed and the referee decided that the goal would not stand.
