Sleepy Foxes

Backwell 2 WPF 0
Backwell 1 WPF 3

The Y5 Girls had a difficult away tie at Backwell. As funds wouldn't stretch to an overnight stay (or an early morning flight) the girls had an early start to get to the ground. With Conkers suspended, (or was that 'at Brownie camp'), Annie had to take over between the sticks, requiring a shuffle in the back line, and it wasn't long before her first task was to pick the ball out of the net as the sleepy Foxes were caught napping as Backwell passed the ball through them and walked into the box to coolly slot home. As if that wasn't bad enough, from the Foxes restart, the same thing happened again. Two down in as many minutes, did I not like that!
The girls finally woke up and to their credit started to play with more confidence, restricting Backwell to few further chances whilst poor finishing on our occasional forward forays let us down. The rest of the game remained goalless.
After a 10 minute break, Backwell brought on a new team for match two. It seemed as history was repeating itself as the Foxes watched as Backwell broke forward and casually stroked the ball home. This finally provided the spur to the Foxes, who started to dominate, but once again poor finishing let us down. The second half was a different matter with the Foxes laying siege to the Backwell goal. The equalizer came from a well taken run and shot from Imi, and from then on it was one way traffic. Daisy slotted home from a goal mouth mix up and Jodie blasted home from the edge of the box to seal a deserved Foxes win.
Well done to Captain K for filling in at the back, where she and Ollie P formed a good pairing, and to Imi who ran tirelessly covering the whole pitch, and showed great commitment to winning the ball.

No football next week, but we have a match on the 18th v Frampton Rangers (venue to be confirmed)
