Year five boys face tough opposition at Coombe Dingle

The year 5 boys faced tough opposition against a strong Coombe Dingle side but Andy and Paul were very pleased at the commitment and effort showed by the boys. We divided into two squads to play a Coombe Dingle first and second team. The first game resulted in a disapponting defeat (0-4) although after conceding three very early goals the team showed great character to keep Coombe Dingle at bay for the rest of the game. We then fought out a close 0-0 draw with Coombe Dingle's first team before again slipping to a 0-2 defeat in the third game.

But in the last game the Foxes came good winning 2-0 with a magnificent goal from Ben (Oliver W slipping the ball to Gabe in midfield, a slick first touch pass onto Eddie on the run down the right and another inch-perfect raking ball into the path of Ben on a perfectly timed diagonal run behind the defence, rounding the keeper in one movement and turning the ball crisply into the net...4 players, 5 touches, 5 seconds from beginning to end...quite brilliant and very exciting to watch!) and a wonderful curling shot from Oliver W into the corner of the net.

Harvey earned player of the week for an outstanding performance at the back - his positional play and timing in the tackle were excellent and he was a real inspiration to the rest of his team.

Paul and Andy are looking forward to the Thornbury tournament on 10 May - we will have a number of training sessions before then to work on our game but we are confident we will be very competitive on the day.

Up the Foxes!
