Foxes win ugly!
After last weeks disappointment the girls were fired up for the arrival of Emersons Green.
A new Referee, and the Foxes were reduced to 11 as Izzy fell foul of the earring rule! Harsh, but sadly out of our control…….
The Foxes started brightly, and it became clear that the opposition had defence in mind, as they lined up with a back 4 and 2 holding midfielders!
The Foxes had all the possession and, despite moving the ball from side to side with confidence, the final ball into the box found Sim surrounded, by 3 or 4 opponents.
The away team were defending resolutely, closing down quickly and being strong in the tackle.
The Foxes switched tack and pushed Daisy further forward, with a message for her and Lulu to test the 'keeper from distance. After a couple of shots wide Daisy unleashed a pile driver from outside the box into the corner. 1-0, and surely the floodgates would open...
The Foxes continued to have all the possession and territory, but were unable to get a second and the half ended with the home keeper having not yet touched the ball!
Expecting more of the same in the second half, the Foxes started confidently with a fine passing move from kick off.
Emersons Green though changed tactics, committing more forward and challenged the Foxes further up the pitch.
Time after time they were first to the ball, and started to catch the Foxes on the break. The girls started to get unnerved, and were guilty of losing shape and holding onto the ball too long instead of passing through the opposition as they had done in the first half. The away team grew in confidence and the Foxes were rueing the lack of a second goal that would have killed the tie off, but held on for the 3 points.
So a real game of 2 halves, and an ugly win, but much deserved on the balance of play!
