Year 5 boys surpass all expectations at Cadbury Heath

We approached the Cadbury Heath tournament with a little trepidation because Paul and Andy knew that the boys would be tired from Lyme Regis (apologies to all the mums and dads for the early start) and we would be a player short of even getting our two teams on the pitch. In the end we had a fantastic morning and played some great great football.

First of all a massive thanks to Ethan Bowyer who stepped in on the day to complete the 7 in Andy’s squad after poor Eddie had to withdraw with a knee injury sustained at Creary Park on Friday (in the “battle of the bears” so we’re told). The group stages saw Paul’s squad narrowly lose to two excellent teams and get a bye in the third match to reach the quarter finals. Andy’s squad went one up in the first game (a cool penalty from Ben) only to lose 3-1, before beating Cheltenham 2-0 (Ethan and Jamie scoring) and drawing 0-0 against the hosts. This set up a crunch quarter final for the Foxes B team against the best team in the tournament – the Foxes A team!

Paul’s squad went through 1-0 with a fantastic strike from Jack and some superb goalkeeping from Ollie Domaille. In the semis we narrowly lost 1-0 to Bitton – a fine side who went on to win the tournament.

This was a great display from the Foxes – we played some lovely football and Paul and Andy were very proud of the performances from everybody. We have our last tournament on 11 July at Frampton and we have high hopes that we might be able to keep this momentum for that day and go even further. Thanks to everyone who came along – we know it was an early start and everyone was very tired. But it was a great morning and a lovely day.

The boys who played were: Ethan, Ben, Joe, Lukha, James, Jamie, Sam, Adam, Oliver W, Oliver D, Jack, Kris, Tom, Danny. Well played lads!
