Year Three Boys At The St Nicks Tournament

Saturday 30th May saw a very early start (especially for the parents) as we took one squad of eight to the St Nicks Tournament in far-away Chipping Sodbury. The eight boys were:

Harri
Barnabus
Sebastian
Max
Nick
Omar
Danny
Jack

In all we played six games in our group stage, winning two and drawing four and conceding only three goals.

The first game was against a very strong Bristol United (eventual group winners) and after a hesitant start we were well worth a nil-nil draw. Second up saw a well deserved 2-1 win over Yate United with goals from Barney and Omar. After taking an early lead through Omar and having the best of the game we concede an equaliser very late in the game when the drew with Thornbury after we failed to clear our lines from a rare attack.

Against Quedgely Utd we somehow failed to score despite a number of chances including a Ronaldo-like free kick from Jack that just clipped the outside of the post. A great win against St Nicks (goals from Barney and Jack) was followed by a dominant performance against Coombe Dingle B. Barney had a goal disallowed, scored another and the team had several other chances before a foul (which looked to be outside the box) was given as a penalty and pretty much with the last kick of the game they equalised.

A great day saw a really enjoyable tournament (thanks to everyone at St Nicks) and top performances throughout the team: Danny, Jack, Nick, Barney and Omar all took turns in goal and all did really well, Harri, Nick and Seb were towering in defence and midfield, Omar and Jack took their goals really well and Danny and Max ran hard and displayed some great touches. Overall, however, player of the week was Barney for his three goals and great effort throughout.

Well done to everyone - including the bleary-eyed parents who as always were there to support the Foxes throughout (although the football did sometimes seem to interrupt David 'Arthur Daley' Vickerman's attempts to sell a freezer, or was it a tumble dryer or perhaps it was both? I get easily confused). The coaches really appreciate the support. Thanks.

Andy
