Shire Colts v WPF - Year 3

Team: Brody, Matthew, Jack, Joseph, Jago, Harrison, Sam, Isaac, William LP, Ewan

The match had a festive feel, clear blue skies and a nip in the air made for a perfect atmosphere for a tough game against one of our long standing rivals - Shire Colts (formerly Combe Dingle). We met only a few weeks previously on the Downs when the weather intervened and the matches were abandoned. Today however it was perfect conditions. The first half saw WPF play some very entertaining football; the passing was superb and WPF all worked together to carve out many good chances to score. Mid way through the first half Joseph opened the scoring for WPF with a superb shot into the roof of Shire Colts goal. It was a justly deserved goal for the Foxes, we were playing the better football and we looked like adding a few more goals. Towards the end of the first half Shire Colts scored probably against the run of play. The second half brought a few substitutions so that everyone could have a game. Ringing the changes and having to play up the gently sloping pitch seemed to put the Foxes off their stride and we conceded two quick goals which made it 3-1 to the home side. However there was still drama to come with WPF conceding a penalty from a hand ball. Jago pulled off a fabulously brave double save, first diving to his right to parry the penalty and then diving bravely at the feet of the Shire Colts striker. Match ended 3 - 1 to Shire Colts but it was thoroughly entertaining and didn't reflect how well WPF played. Man of the Match for WPF was Jack for his resolute defending and good distribution of the ball out of defence. Joseph also deserves a mention for his superb goal in the first half. Well done the Foxes!
