Year 4 Boys vs The World - Saturday 13th December

Well perhaps not the whole world but our mighty year 4s did take on two different clubs, at the same time, winning 4 and drawing one. Not bad eh?

Our squad was split into three. Eight boys (Danny, Ollie K, Jacob, Raul, Sam L, Sam P, Max and Harri) travelled to the wilds of Long Ashton and were 3-0 up after about two minutes. At this point we lost all shape and discipline and chased the ball and the glory of scoring. Accordingly we stopped playing particularly well and relied very heavily on the Sam p and Ollie k to hold things together and snuff out any threat from Long Ashton. A brief half-time chat allowed the team to start again and the second half saw some great football and a dominant performance. In the end the score was 7-1 with Danny (3), Sam L and Raul (2 each) scoring. Ollie K was our man of the match although Sam p pushed him very hard.

At home two squads took on Shire Colts. One squad (Omar, Nicholas, Aidan, Alec Ollie C and Owen) started slowly in time-honoured fashion going 0-2 down to a couple of sloppy goals. Then, in the second half, we began to string the passes together. Omar converted to bring it back to 1-2. Further attacks followed until Omar grabbed the equaliser once put through on goal. It finished 2-2, a keenly fought game played in an excellent spirit by both teams, with some real flashes of skill on a muddy pitch.

The second game followed a different pattern. While Shire Colts showed some nice touches, and scored with a spectacular first time hit from a short corner, they couldn't match the physicality and directness of the Foxes. The defence and midfield consistently snuffed out most attacks, then released Omar to cause havoc in the opposing ranks. He could have scored 5 or 6, but 2 fine efforts were enough to give the Foxes a comfortable lead. The highlight was the third goal, an interchange of passes between Nicholas and Omar finished off with the outstretched right boot of Ollie C at the far post. Nicholas later claimed one from a deflected corner before Shire Colts grabbed a late consolation with the last attack of the game - final score 4-2. The whole team played well but Ollie C was selected as man of the match for his all round efforts - in defence, in goal, and finally in midfield, capped by his brilliant goal.

The other squad (Archie, Joey, Jack T, Jack C, Seb and Sonny) played two and won two (2-0 and 6-0). Details are scant due to a missing report from Coach Watts but after a slow start with too little passing and too much glory hunting the team settled down and took control. Man of the match was Jack C for a brilliantly taken goal that finished off a flowing move.

Well done all.
