Year 3 Foxes entertain against Golden Hill Sonics 21 Nov

It was a later than normal start for the Y3 Foxes as they waited for the Y2 team games to finish. 17 Foxes turned up to be split into 2 squads for 2 matches each. Despite hugely varying pitch conditions, they played some very exciting football.

Orange Squad Match 1
Team - Jack, Ewan, Caleb, Josh, TJ, Stanley, Ludo Subs: William LP, Matthew

In the first half the Foxes deserved their 2 - 0 lead, Stanley and TJ scoring well deserved goals. In the second half TJ replaced Jack in goal and Matthew and William LP replaced Stanley and Josh. Sonics took a 3 -2 lead and it looked like WPF might suffer a defeat but Jack rescued the Foxes with well-taken goal, beating the Sonics keeper in a one-on-one situation. Final score 3-3. On balance a draw was probably a fair result but it was a thoroughly entertaining game.

Orange Squad Match 2
Team - William LP, Jack, Ewan, Isaac, Ludo, TJ, Matthew, Stanley, Josh

The Foxes probably had more of the attacking play in the second game. Jack had a man of the match performance commanding the defense with Isaac and Ewan, ensuring any Sonics attacks were dealt with before they posed any danger. Ludo, Matthew and TJ combined well across mid-field and set up good chances for strikers Stanley and Josh. Josh probably had the best chance of both matches. Quick thinking from William LP in goal released Josh from a long goal kick and only an equally good piece of defending from Sonics prevented Josh from scoring. Another entertaining game, the 0 -0 draw probably the fair result. On the ball Foxes!

Green Squad Match 1
Team – Caston, Eddie, Isaac, Teya, Billy, Joseph, Henry, Harrison.

The first match was 8-a-side played on a lovely big pitch that suited our passing style of play. Despite early pressure from GHS, a brave performance by Caston in goal and Eddie, Teya and Isaac in defence saw the Foxes hold out. As we got going the Foxes broke forward time after time. Billy and Henry dominated midfield and Joseph and Harrison taunted the opposition’s defence. Only some last ditch tackling and the narrowness of the hockey goals kept us out. The Foxes probably deserved to win but had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Green Squad Match 2
Team – Caston, Eddie, Teya, Billy, Joseph, Henry, Harrison.

The second match was played on a small, narrow makeshift pitch that hampered any expansive play and we paid the price. GHS scored early when a harmless kick took a cruel deflection to wrong-foot Harrison in goal. After going 0-2 down the Foxes had to resort to the alien concept of “route 1” football. A long kick out from Harrison by-passed the crowded midfield and was collected by Joseph who scored a superb goal. Sadly that was the end of our comeback. A goalmouth muddle and a handball gave away 2 more soft goals and despite playing hard to the end we went down 1-5. Not a true reflection of the game.

Players of the week – Caston, Isaac, Jack, Stanley and TJ.

Any disappointment at the results was tempered by all the Foxes being congratulated by the opposition for playing in such a sporting spirit. Well done Foxes you make us very proud!
