AEK Boco Blue 2 v 0 Westbury Park Foxes U10 Girls

Foxes Girls Finally lose 'last undefeated team in u10 BGL' title!

Today saw a trip out to Hanham to play joint BGL leaders Boco Blue, who had made a tremendous start to the season.
We knew that it was going to be a big challenge to get a result out of a game against a side made up of Y5s, who had already completed a season of competitive football, particularly as they looked to bounce back from their defeat to 'form team' Portishead last week.
Before the game we focused on trying to put on our best performance of the season, so win, lose or draw, we could leave knowing that we had given it our best shot.
Still Smiling!
The first 10 minutes produced some of the best football we have seen all year from the girls as they camped in the Boco penalty box, without reward. Wave after wave of fantastic movement and passing met stubborn resistance, and we were unable to find a way through.
Boco adapted their style and went almost to a 4-2 formation, and midway through the first half it paid dividends as a break dragged our defence out wide and a well directed cross to an unmarked striker 4 yards from goal gave Betty no chance.
The game carried on in the same vane for most of the first half, with Foxes dominating possession, but Boco dangerous on the break, requiring some fantastic covering tackles from Amelia.
So unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time, especially as the ref blew for half time with Lulu clear through on goal. An enforced substitution saw Mara have to leave the game, so Lily took over on the wing. Isabelle and Molly also had a chance alternating midfield and defence.
The second half was all Foxes, as they piled forward in search of an equalizer. The 4 man Boco defence held firm, crowding out Sim's strong runs, and with 5 minutes to go the Foxes, who had gone to 1-3-2 in search of an equaliser were caught out 2 on 1 to go 2-0 down. No heads dropped and the Foxes went again, but it was not to be our day.
So a defeat, but some of the best football we have seen from the girls all season. With games in hand if we keep up this level of performance, we will have a great season!

Captain of the Week  - Lulu
Girl of the Game - Amelia
