Year 4 vs Sefton Park, Saturday 6th February

A round of games that again proved to be a successful Saturday for the Foxes.

As usual we split into what on paper looked like two even squads. As usual the fact that we play on grass (well the Downs ) meant that the results did not really reflect the attempts to balance selection.

Squad One had the best of both of its games winning the first 7-0 (Joey (3), Jack C (2)
Max, Danny) and their second 6-1: ( Joey (2), Sam L, Danny (2), Jack C, Max).

In both of these games the Foxes exhibited fairly powerful attacking and defensive displays. In the first game, nearly all Sefton Park attacks were snuffed out by Sebastian and Jack T and irresistible attacking from Joey on the right lead to goals for him and for others as he combined well with Sam L and Jack C on the left. The second game could have been a different story. The Foxes were only 3-1 at break and owed a huge debt to Jack C who, although initially reluctant to play in goal, made three decisive saves in latter part of game to keep the opposition out, allowing Joey and Danny to add to the tally, and Max to finish off with a goal from the right hand side.

Player of the week Jack C for his contributions in both outfield positions and goal, but high marks all round to everyone for a convincing team performance.

Squad 2 won its first game 3-2 bit lost its second 2-1. In both games, and as often happens, the Foxes came unstuck when we lost our shape and players started playing out of position. On occasions it looked like we were playing an old fashioned 1-0-6 formation. However there were also some great passages of play, some brave and intelligent defending and some well taken goals.

Player of the week was Sonny for his usual high-quality on-field performance but also for, again reluctantly, going in goal in the second game and keeping the score line to a reasonable margin.
