Foxes yr 5 boys take on Rockleaze in freezing conditions

It was a freezing day on the Downs on Saturday as the year 5 boys took on Rockleaze. We divided into two squads, one taken by Mr B and the other by Andy. Each squad played three matches.

Everyone played really well - in the first set of matches Mr B's squad captained ably by Jack (who played his heart out all day) won a tight match 1-0, Eddie scoring bravely following up a great shot from Jack. The other squad fought out a very exciting 4-4 draw, Gabe bagging a hat-trick and Hugo scoring the other goal. The Foxes staged a remarkable come-back in this match scoring twice in the last thirty seconds to warm up the spectators on the touchline.

In the second set of matches Mr B's squad won again, this time 2-0, with goals from Eddie (a long raking shot) and Ben (waltzing through the defence to tuck the ball away in the corner). Andy's squad went down 2-5 in this match with Hugo scoring and the team benefitting from an own goal. Jamie played bravely in goal until he came off injured and Kris gamely donned the keeper's jersey for the first time to take his place. With Hugo off injured as well the team only had 6 players for a while and did well not to give up in this game.

The final set of matches brought a 1-2 defeat for Mr B's squad (Ben netting superbly by lobbing the keeper from a distance) and a 2-2 draw for the other squad (Hugo scoring both and Tom W distinguishing himself with two superb saves). The Foxes pressed for a win in this game but couldn't quite force another goal.

All in all a great day and honours even with Rockleaze - 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. Next week we take on Ashley Down at Redland Green full of confidence. A big thanks to all supporters for braving the cold on Saturday. Hopefully we will be enjoying better conditions soon!

Up the Foxes!
