Year 2 Foxes measure up against Rockleaze Rangers, 31 Jan

A cold morning saw 18 brave little Foxes split into two packs to take on Rockleaze at Coombe Dingle.

In the first of 4 matches, the Foxes completed dominated throughout with solid work from Sam and Stanley. But we just couldn't turn pressure into points and against the play, went 0-2 down until a great pass from Joseph put Harrison clear for a magnificent strike. More domination brought a second goal from Jago, but another breakaway goal and an own-goal meant Rockleaze were 4-2 up. Then came contender for "Goal of the Season". Joseph won the ball in defence, outfoxed the opposition and played it through to Harrison; looking up he saw TJ on a run and slotted it through for TJ to hit the back of the net. The whistle went before we could equalize, giving Rockleaze a fortunate 4-3 win.

The next match saw Jack in goal.  With Matthew and Eddie defending, the Foxes never looked like conceding a goal. The strong midfield of William LP and Josh provided many scoring chances for Henry and Felix. A fine right-foot shot from Henry gave Foxes the only goal and a 1-0 win.

The third game introduced Teya and William W to the action. With Matthew in goal and Eddie and William W shoring up defence, Teya and Josh could feed Henry and Jack up front. Teya's power and a talent for the long throw impressed those watching. At half-time, Felix and William LP came back on, giving Henry and Matthew a well-deserved rest. The home side's policy of continuously rotating subs disrupted the flow of the game but Rockleaze pressed hard and deserved their 0-2 victory.

In the final game, Ludo, Oskar and Caleb helped their team dominate completely once more. Only strong arm defence and good goalkeeping kept Rockleaze alive as the Foxes peppered their goal. Eventually the pressure told as Jago took a brilliant solo goal, breaking through with Harrison and Joseph in support. A Rockleaze long throw led to their equalizer and the Foxes had to settle for a moral victory but a 1-1 draw.

In summary, the Foxes played by far their most consistent and high quality football so far.  Everyone  impressed with their high standard, determination and excellent fair play. Well done all!
