Year 4 Girls Clip the Falcons Wings ( Sat Oct 17)

Yr 4 Foxettes v Thornbury Falcons (Away)
Played 4, won 2, lost 2, Total Goals 7-4 to the Foxes!

Another storming turnout on a bright sunny morning in Thornbury and for once, a club that could match us for numbers, if not talent.

With 16 playing in the Green and White and 15 Thornbury Falcons up against us, we had two teams each and 4 matches. Thornbury fielded an A side and a B side (as I finally realised at the end!) and we put out two equally strong teams. Each won once and lost once, - both victories providing goal fests of 3-1 and 4-0.

There's the numbers, the real story though is that in 16 players there are now no passengers. We decided to try playing in new positions, seeing Anna R and Sophie HR playing up front for a change, nearly scoring! Sophie Mac and Phoebe took a turn in defence, although you can only keep a McConnell in a box for so long; soon we unleashed her and the boots and goals came flying.

Molly H had another scorching game, she's a fighter that one. Another well-deserved goal gave her two in a row ( don't take it personally Linda - your absence seems to inspire!!). Sophie C, Molly, Megan and Tia no longer look new to the squad. Their shirts are worn, their boots muddy, their determination fierce. They've even started passing.

Sorry I can't mention everyone in dispatches - there are so many of you now! But there must be space for Anna D's magnificent hatrick, which has to earn her PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

Great enthusiasm, as ever, decent teamwork, plenty of hunger. Huge support cheered us all the way, and now the Director of Football tells me the girls are ready for advanced concepts like "shape", "control" and "through balls". Time for this coach to do some homework...
